| | | | Tantara’s Mystical Midnite Onyx, CGC, HIC, OFA, TDI | | | | | | | | | Onyx is our very first Shiloh Shepherd and joined our family in February 2003. Jade (our Rottie) welcomed her into the family with open paws and taught Onyx “the alpha role” in a very short 8 months when suddenly, Jade crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Onyx learned and matured very quickly but not without going through the most heartbreaking case of grieving I have ever seen in a canine. Onyx lost almost 20 lbs. and was skin and bones. Until the light bulb finally went “on” and I discovered that Onyx was already “in tune” with me and she wouldn’t stop grieving until I did. I started to sit on the floor and eat my dinner with Onyx and she started to pick around at her dry kibble. Prior to losing Jade I started to research the “BARF” diet, a/k/a Raw Diet and started to inquire with other Shiloh breeders who feed raw. This was my last resort on trying to get Onyx to “come back” and live a happy life like a dog should, so I started with food. Onyx really enjoyed eating the raw that I did give her but I was still feeding mostly dry kibble. Onyx started to gain some of her weight back.
However, it wasn’t until we switched them to all raw in 2005, when Onyx began to flourish, went through a detoxification process to rid her body of the (high quality) dry kibble and she is now a very happy, healthy, stunning 8 year old Shiloh girl. As of today we have never looked back and our entire Shiloh family is all raw fed. Onyx is an exemplary example of intelligence in the canine world. She reads our every move and knows things before they even happen, she will protect with every hair on her body, she is the most gentle girl we could ask for, an astounding leader of “her pack”, and in our eyes and all around prize package. We have formed a bond with Onyx like no other and she will always and forever be “Our Special Girl”.
